Yoshiaki Takahashi, 43, of Hanamigawa-ku, Chiba, has been arrested for allegedly accepting kickbacks from a Kyoto internet café owner, with the funds coming from customers who gambled on the casino site Takahashi worked for.
“I didn’t know the money was part of proceeds from illegal gambling” he was quoted as saying to investigators and has since denied the allegations.
Takahashi is accused of receiving 16M yen (roughly $140,760 US) from the Kyoto café operator over five different visits last January.
The casino site owner has been placed on a wanted list according to Japanese officials.
